Decision on Sarnia arenas delayed
A highly anticipated decision has been delayed on the future of several city arenas. City staff won't be presenting
its final arena strategy management Monday, despite this council meeting date being highly touted as decision day for Germain Arena and the RBC Centre.
A staff report released Friday suggests matters surrounding the RBC Centre have delayed the final report. It is now expected to come to council in May.
City council was expected to decide whether to close the aging Germain Arena and whether to assume operation of all or part of the RBC Centre. Lambton College has expressed interest in purchasing the second rink to turn it into a field house.
Parks and recreation director Ian Smith, who was set to retire this month, will also be staying on to help with the process. He is now expected to retire later this year.
