DEFENSE
FIRST is a unique hockey program (for boys and girls) to focus on the specific skills that are required to play Defence in hockey.
This program is designed to increase knowledge and skill development through drills, power skating, and classroom sessions.
The skill areas that will be taught include:

Defensive zone positioning and Net play

Difference between pressure and contain

Reading the offensive rush

How to play even and odd man rushes

Escapes and techniques to read offensive fore-check (e.g. D to D, Reverse, etc.)

Neutral Zone and Play in the offensive zone – Hinge habits and skating techniques

The benefits of taking a pass properly

Shooting habits – how to catch a pass and using the right shot in a situation

Lane manipulation, creating offense at the offensive blueline

Breakout Habits and techniques
-
Thinking offensively, and how to create offense from the Defence

Scanning the ice techniques
The week long program will be delivered by local coach Derek Di Muzio. Derek's coaching resume includes being both a Head and Assistant Coach at the Junior level for over 13 years. Derek has won numerous coaching awards, and has a proven track record for developing local talent and helping them move to higher levels of hockey (e.g. OHL, NCAA, AHL, NHL). He has been an Assistant Coach with the Ontario Hockey League’s Sarnia Sting in the past and his focus area was on skill development. He has helped many Defenseman currently playing in the NHL develop their skills (e.g. Jakob Chychrun, Anthony DeAngelo, T.J. Brodie, Dalton Prout, and more).
Novice/Atom/Peewee Session – August 3rd to August 7thth at the RBC Center in Sarnia,
Classroom session from 9:30-10:30 am., then on ice from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm daily.
COST: $250.00 per skater
Bantam/Midget/Junior Session – August 3rd – 7th, at the RBC Center in Sarnia, on ice from 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm daily, classroom session will follow from 2:00-3:00 pm each day.

Note: Spaces for each camp will be limited to approximately 18 skaters to ensure maximum teaching time, skill development, and adequate repetitions for each drill and ensure good practice/training to game transfer.
