Lambton Jr. Sting Coach's Corner: U13 and U12
Let's get to know our U13 (Mike Murphy) and U12 (Breydan Belan) coaches a little better...
Mike Murphy
Mike started coaching Sarnia Sting House League at the age of sixteen before becoming the assistant coach of the Mooretown Flags (Junior C). He then moved on to coaching and managing the Sarnia Bulldogs (Junior A) Roller Hockey Team and won three consecutive championships. Mike has also coached Team Canada Inline and won gold. Following these accomplishments he returned to coaching Sarnia Sting House League, before moving into coaching AA, and now coaching in the Lambton Jr. Sting AAA program.
Mike played hockey growing up in Sarnia and went on to play Junior A inline in London. He also played Senior AA out west for the Rocanville Tigers.
Mike on highlights during his coaching career: "For me it would be coaching Junior C as well as Canada Inline and the Junior Inline, winning several championships and receiving Coach of the Year Award three years in a row. I also really enjoyed coaching the AA kids here in Sarnia, and winning a few tournaments along the way."
Mike's favourite hockey team is the Detroit Red Wings.
His favourite quote is: "Show up to the rink and do your job!"
From Mike: "I love seeing all the kids have fun, learn and grow together as a team. Forming special bonds is extremely important!"
Breydan Belan
Breyden is certified by Hockey Canada, holding High Development 1 Certification, and has earned over 25 professional development points since 2015. His experience and knowledge has been acquired over his 30+ years in the game of hockey, playing AAA minor hockey to Junior C, Junior B and into Senior A.
Along the way Breyden has been guided by many coaches who have shaped his philosophy and approach towards players into his own coaching values. With his years of playing competitive hockey ending he wanted to continue to be around the competitive atmosphere. For the past six years he has been coaching youth hockey from atom to bantam age. Most recently Breydan assisted with the 2008 Lambton Junior Sting team.
Passion for the game still runs deep within Breyden, but he has found a new form of competition. Coaching, developing growth, achieving success and having someone else discover their own achievements is what motivates Breyden.
Breyden’s favourite hockey team is the Detroit Red Wings; naturally he has developed a dislike for all Maple Leaf fans.
Breyden’s favourite quote: “if you can’t outplay them, out work them.”
