Nike Bauer International Invite
Lambton traveled to Chicago this past weekend to compete in the prestigious Nike Bauer International Invite with 24 teams in their division. Lambton made it to the final 8 teams (quarterfinal) before losing out in overtime.

After a long bus ride the team settled into their hotel, grabbed a bite to eat and setoff again for an alumni game where the St. Louis Blues would take on the Chicago Blackhawks. During the intermission the team got some autographs and a couple of pointers from Bobby Hull before boarding their bus and heading back to the hotel to prepare for the tournament.

Game one had the Sting up against the Pittsburgh Aviators. Lambton controlled the action most of the game but just couldn’t seem to find the back of the net as Pittsburgh won this game 3-1.

Game two the Sting would take on the Milwaukee Jr. Admirals. With only a 3 game round robin Lambton new they had to win this one or it might be over. This game had nine penalties in it as there seemed to be only one team on the ice as the Sting took eight of those. First period action had the Admirals up 1-0. In the second period the Sting lit the lamp seven times for a 7-3 lead by the end of two. Lambton would not let the penalties discourage them as they went on to whip the Admirals 10 – 4.

Game three saw the Sting take on the Boston Red Rangers. This was a must win for both teams as whoever lost this one was going home and the winner moving on to the sweet 16 round.  Lambton came out hard in the first period, as they had three power plays in the first period and put the Rangers on their heels quick with 4 goals by the end of the first period. Lambton however would be on the receiving end of penalties for the remainder of the game as they would get the next eight penalties in a row, but again the sting would not let that get them down as Lambton’s penalty killing and goaltending would not allow the Rangers back in the game as this one would end 5-1 for the Sting, and the Rangers heading home.

Sweet sixteen action seen the Sting up against the undefeated Washington Little Capitals. This game only had 5 penalties in this one, as again the Sting were on the receiving end as they had four of those with Washington’s on penalty being in the last seconds of the game. First period action had the Sting up 2-1, by the end of the second it was Lambton ahead 5-3. Washington tried everything they could to catch the Sting but the Lambton squad was just to much for them, with the final score being 5-3 Lambton.

With Lambton moving on to the quarter finals, only 8 teams remained from the original 24. Lambton would take on the Alaska All Stars. In first period action both teams traded goals 1-1. During the second and third periods neither team could catch a break as the game would end a tie sending this one into overtime. With four skaters on each side action went end to end with Lambton having some good scoring chances but just couldn’t beat the Alaskan goaltender. Finally with just over a minute remaining in the extra period Alaska would end the Sting’s dream as they would score the OT winner and 2-1 victory.
