Major Atom Sting Manage a Split on the Weekend
Game 1

The Major Atom's travelled to Chatham this past Friday night to play the Cylcones in their first game of the season, and managed to pull out a 4-2 victory.

The Sting opened the scoring in the 1st period , with Alec Trusler keeping the puck in the offensive zone passing to Carson Payne who in turn banked a pass off the end boards to Joey Ferrera who came from behind the net and backhanded in.  Our defensive corp. managed to limit Chatham's offense in this period keeping it 1-0 going into the second.

In the second period, Cameron Rombouts banged in a loose puck in the crease, assisted by Joe Correia and Dante Fuoco.  The Sting struck again as Theo Crombeen and Josh Vale started the play up the ice and dished off to Cameron Adam who went around the D with a shot that scored top corner.  In the later stages of the period the team seemed to get into a daze letting in 2 quick goals one while on the powerplay and the other while being shorthanded.  However, before the end of the period the Sting would add to their lead as J. Correia made a nice centering pass to C. Adam who scored from the slot.

The third period both teams looked a bit tired with little offense generated.  The game ended 4-2 for the Sting. Overall, it was a good start for the team.  Well done boys!

Game 2

The Sting played their second game of the weekend home to the Sun County Panthers.  The boys came out flying in the first period and managed to score in the 1st minute. Gage Langford skated out of his own zone hitting Josh Vale streaking down the right wing, who then made a great cross ice pass to Cameron Adam who just had to tap home the puck.  The Sting continued to dominate the play giving Sun County defense fits with their constant pressure.  They struck again, as Duncan Core made a great play to keep the puck deep in the offensive zone, allowing  J. Vale to make a another pass to C. Adam who backhanded over the goalies shoulder.  It stayed 2-0 at the end of the 1st with the Sting looking in complete control.  However, hockey has 3 period and things can change quickly.

In the second period, Sun County struck early, 35 seconds into the period, making it 2-1.  But the Sting responded with another of their own as Cameron Rombouts made no mistake burying the puck into the open cage, after some great work down low by J. Correia and Nolan Farr who picked up the assists.  Then the wheels started to come off!  Sun County produced 4 goals in a matter of 4 minutes changing the score from 3-1 to 5-3 for them.  This pretty much took the wind out of the boys sails.

In the 3rd period there was a glimmer of hope as N. Farr made a great rush a scored, assisted by C. Rombouts.  But this was quickly extinguished as Sun County potted 2 more leaving the rink with a 7-4 victory.

A disappointing game for the team.  This proves once again that playing only 1 period of hockey will not win games.  Lets learn from this lesson.
