Bantams advance to the Quarter Finals in Chicago

The Lambton Jr Sting Major Bantam team travelled to the Windy City to participate in the International AAA Bauer Invite tournament. Their first opponent was the New Jersey Rockets. Cole Lauzon had the win turning aside many shots on the net. Goals were scored by Alec Segers assisted by Dillon Saunders; Brendan Trottier from Brett Corrigan and Sam McCormack, Tim Kaldeway from Trottier and McCormack and Segers with his second of the game from Matt Gough and Saunders. Sting get their first win of the tournament 5-3. The Sting would then go on to beat the Indiana Ice. Travis Moore was the winning goalie. Austin Hewton had the hat trick with single goals from Tyler Drury and Jake Mott. Assists went to Segers, Trottier, Kaldeway, Corrigan, McCormack and Dylan Carroll. Game #3 was against the Anaheim Ducks. Cole Lauzon helped to keep this game close stopping many close shots and the defensive core of Cory Burr, Mike Zottl, Adriano Fuoco, Cole Harris, McCormack and Drury shut down the speedy likes of Teemu Selanne’s son. Saunders and Corrigan had the goals with Kaldeway, Hewton and Harris picking up assists. With 3 wins under their belt, it still was not enough due to the tournament format to guarantee a spot in the quarter finals. The final game in round robin would determine the only team to go on in the Fargo division. Lambton was up against Farmington Hills. With outstanding penalty kills led by Matt Gough blocking several shots and the solid goaltending by Travis Moore was key to a Sting victory. Trottier had the winning goal assisted by Corrigan. Josh Reda would also find the back of the net. Segers and Trottiers had the helpers. Kaldeway sealed the deal with unassisted goal in the last minute of play. With a 3-0 victory, the Sting would wait to find out their opponent in the morning quarter finals. The Sting would meet a familiar face Sunday morning. The Sting had handed the Michigan Ice Hawks (one of the top ranked teams in their US division) their first loss of the season when they had met at the Border City Cup. The Sting battled hard the entire game. McCormack would have two goals in this game assisted by Trottier and Corrigan. Both goals were answered by the Ice Hawks. It looked like this game would be going into overtime but with less than a minute to go, the Ice Hawks would score the winning goal. Travis Moore suffered the loss in a hard fought game with many quality chances at both ends of the ice. Although disappointing to the boys to be so close, they had an amazing weekend with 4 wins and battled hard right to the final buzzer. They should be extremely proud of themselves as they have made great gains this tournament and season.
