Hewton picked up the assist. Late in the 3rd period, the Petes would again regain the lead, but with less than a minute remaining in the game, Kaldeway would tie it up on a pass from McCormack. The game would end as a 3-3 tie. Cole Lauzon had the tie in the net. Player of the game was Sam McCormack. Lambton would then meet up with North Central Predators. The scoring was back and forth throughout the game but with just over a minute left in the third. Brett Corrigan would score the game winner from Cory Burr. Brendan Trottier opened the scoring with Corrigan getting the assist. Mathew Gough would be next to put one in the net from Josh Reda and Alec Segers. Jake Mott also scored from Trottier and Corrigan. This game was highlighted with a penalty shot call. Brendan Trottier made no mistake when called upon. Lambton would win 5-4. • Recap
The Lambton Jr Sting participated in the Border City Cup held in Windsor. The Sting opened up the tournament with a short bench facing the Guelph Jr Storm. Sam McCormack would help to get this game started with a shot from the point and Brendan Trottier was there to bury the rebound. The play was back and forth in each other’s end and the period ended 1-0 for the Sting. There was no scoring in the 2nd period. In the 3rd period, Matt Gough would score from Brendan Trottier and Jake Mott to go up 2-0. Lambton would hang on but Guelph would score late in the game to make it 2-1. Travis Moore earned the Player of the game award with the win in the net. The second game on Friday would have the Sting up against the Niagara Falls Canucks. Austin Hewton would open up the scoring from Jake Mott and McCormack. Alec Segers then went on a mission scoring the natural hat trick. Picking up an assist on his first goal was Hewton. Dylan Carroll had the assist on his second goal and his third of the period was unassisted. Niagara Falls wouldn’t give up and would continue to press. They would be rewarded with 2 third period goals. Sting would hold on to the 4-2 win. Cole Lauzon had the win between the pipes and and Segers was the Player of the game. With 2 wins under their belt, the Sting was ready to take on the Michigan Ice Hawks. In what has been said to be their best performance as a team, the Sting would pick up another win 2-1. Travis Moore had the win. There was no scoring in the first and the teams traded goals in the second. Timmy Kaldeway had the goal on the power play from Trottier and Hewton. Kaldeway had the winning goal in the 3rd period from Josh Reda. The defence pairings of Mike Zottl and Cole Harris, Cory Burr and McCormack, Tyler Drury and Adriano Fuoco played hard and helped to keep this game close. Kaldeway was the Player of the game. The Sting would then play their last game of the regulation play against one of their league rivals and the tournament hosts Windsor Jr Spitfires. In a tight game, neither team was able to score in the first two periods. Windsor opened the scoring in the third period with 2 goals. Lambton didn’t give up though and Dillon Saunders got them back in the game with a goal from Kaldeway on the power play. Trottier tied it up with the assist to Cole Harris. Windsor would take the win with a late period goal. Cole Lauzon had a strong game in the net. Dillon Saunders was the Player of the game. With a 3 and 1 record, the Sting advanced to the semi finals. Their draw was against the Sun County Panthers, a team that has had their way with the Sting in the past. The teams each scored in the first to have the period end at 1-1. The second period was a fast hard hitting affair with Sun County getting 2 goals early but Sting responded with one of their own. The Panthers would unfortunately add a 3rd goal with one second left on the clock to end the 2nd period. Lambton would get one back on the power play early in the 3rd but that was all they could muster. Sun County would add one more to take the win 5-3. Trottier had 2 goals with Kaldeway and Hewton assisting on the first and McCormack and Corrigan assisting on his second. Kaldeway had the third goal from Corrigan and Hewton. Trottier was the Player of the game. With a nice comment coming from the Sun County coach on how our team has really come together should be taken as a compliment to the way the boys have played with a “don’t give up attitude”. Lambton’s head coach Joe Clarke is quoted as saying “I am proud of the boys with their hard work and dedication to getting better as a team which is really starting to show during the last two weekends.” Way to go Sting…keep up the great work!
