STING SPLIT A PAIR OF WEEKEND GAMES
The Lambton Sting major atoms had a win and a loss in weekend AAA hockey action.   The Sting fell 6-4 to the Hamilton Reps in the Steel City on Saturday before rebounding with a 6-1 victory over the Brantford 99ers at the RBC Centre on Sunday.

In Hamilton the Sting fell behind 3-0 before goals from Josh McLean and Spencer Vandenboom closed the gap to 1 goal early in the third period.  Unfortunately Hamilton would answer right after the Vandenboom tally and would score again just over a minute after Nolan DeGurse cut the deficeit to 4-3.  That trend would continue as Dylan Riddell scored with 8 minutes remaining in the game to make it 5-4 but 13 seconds after his goal Hamilton went back up by two and the game ended 6-4 for the Reps.  Riddell, DeGurse, Ryleigh Vanderwal and Jaycob White were credited with assists for the Sting.

On home ice Sunday the Sting scored 4 times in the first period and coasted to the 6-1 victory.   Cameron Ware scored twice in the opening stanza with Josh McLean and Nolan DeGurse notching singles.   Goals from Dylan Riddell and Spencer Vandenboom would round out the offense for Lambton.   DeGurse had 3 assists and Hunter Monkhouse added a pair of helpers.   McLean, Riddell, Carson Perry and Ryan Barwitzki also earned assists.   Liam McCarthy turned aside 20 of the 21 shots he faced as his defense of Barwitzki, Kait Isaac, Jaycob White, Jaxon Shelton, Matt McIntyre and Brandon Neelin kept the traffic in front of the Sting net to a minimum.  The Sting had 27 shots on the Brantford cage.

Next up for the Major Atoms are a pair of home games next weekend as they host Waterloo on Saturday and have a rematch with Hamilton on Sunday.
