Scoring Touch High on Sting’s Christmas Wish List
The last weekend before the Christmas break had the Major Peewee’s playing first against the Brantford 99’rs and then the London Jr Knights.

Saturday’s game against Brantford would prove to be a low scoring affair.  Hopefully Santa brings some sticks with goals in them for the New Year!  The Sting would control play from the opening faceoff but were unable to solve the Brantford goaler.  A hard charging Josh Vale almost put the Lambton squad up 1 as he cut to the net.  Joe Correia on the ensuing rebound was also unable to beat the 99’rs netminder.  The territorial advantage continued in Lambton’s favour for the remainder of the first but this was not reflected on the scoresheet as the period ended in a scoreless draw.

Brantford would draw first blood as the 99’rs attacker was allowed to walk out from the corner and slide one along the ice just inside the stick side post to beat Jakob Knowles in net for the Lambton Jr Sting.  The Sting would try to draw even on the power play with good sustained pressure but were again stonewalled by the opposing goaler who was having a good game.  On a nice individual effort, Cam Adam jitterbugged to the front of the net and on a backhander beat the goaler … BUT not the crossbar … UNLUCKY!!  The second would end with Brantford clinging to their 1 – 0 advantage.

On a mad scramble during a power play in the 3rd, the bouncing puck eluded several Sting sticks.  Lady Luck was once again smiling on Brantford as Lambton could not put the puck into the wide open net as the goaler was down and out.  A couple of late posts by the Sting only confirmed who Lady Luck was favouring on this day.  The Sting fell to Brantford in a 1 – 0 final.

The Sting would play their final game before the Christmas break on Sunday night in London at Medway Arena.  This was a big game for both teams in the battle for 2nd place in the west division.

The 1st period saw London dictating most of the pace of the play.  The game would be scoreless until late in the period when a London player was able to tap in a loose puck on a goal mouth scramble.  London would carry the 1-0 lead into the 2nd period when the Sting were given a chance to get back into the game on the power play.  Unfortunately, Lambton was unable to get the power play organized and the Knights would score 2 short handed goals to increase their lead to 3-0.

Play would enter the 3rd period with the Sting looking to get back into the game.  Lambton would be awarded a power play early in the period and this time would capitalize as Josh Vale let go a hard low drive from the point that was tipped in by Theo Crombeen.  Joe Correia would also be awarded an assist on the play.  The Sting would continue to press, but would eventually run into penalty trouble of their own.  The Knights would score a late goal and take a 4-1 win.
