Midget’s Lack of Discipline Cost them a Win
The midget’s traveled to London Sunday night with the hopes of showing the Jr. Knights that the preseason exhibition wins were no fluke.

Instead they demonstrated that a lack of discipline and taking shifts off are no way to win hockey games. The first 13 minutes of the first period was a pretty even affair with neither side giving up many chances although the Lambton forcheck that had been good all season was nowhere to be found. The Jr. Sting then learned that the Jr. Knights have a very good power play. The Jr. Knights scored on their first Power play attempt with 7 minutes remaining in the first when their captain put a rebound over sprawling Steven Taylor. They followed that up with a fluky goal less than two minutes later when a rebound hit a Lambton defenseman and bounced into the net. The Jr. Knights then converted on their second power play attempt as the first came to an end to go into the break with a 3-0 lead.
The second was a penalty filled affair with the two teams combining for a total of 36 minutes in penalties. London would extend their lead on another fluky goal when a Lambton defenseman tipped a soft shot that trickled by Taylor’s outstretched hand. Lambton finally displayed their power play prowess when Hick’s made a cross ice pass to Campbell, his hard shot from the slot resulted in a rebound to Lewis who made no mistake to get Lambton on the board. The Jr. Sting’s momentum was quickly quelled though when they took another penalty on the ensuing faceoff. This seemed to be the trend as a lack of discipline prevented Lambton from getting any extended power play time as they continually followed London to the box. The period ended with London leading 4-1 even though shots were almost even.
The only saving grace for the Jr. Sting was that they continued to improve in the third and brought the game within 2 when Colasimone and Veluz combined to set up Durco from behind the net. That was all the Jr. Sting could muster on this night and the team left feeling the sting of their first regular season loss.
The next meeting of these teams should be an interesting affair as this time it will be Lambton with something to prove.
When asked for a comment after the game all coach Taylor had to say was "I can't wait for Tuesday night's practice".
Final - LJK 4, LJS 2
Saves - Steven Taylor 29, London 24
Penalties - LJS 30 minutes, LJK 26 minutes
The Jr. Sting continue to lead the league with a 6-1-0 record and play Waterloo next Saturday.
