MIDGETS RETURING TO EARLY SEASON FORM
Dec 8 – Brantford - Following a tough stretch in November losing four in a row, the team seems to be getting back on track and went into Brantford feeling confident.

Brantford started strong jumping out to an early lead when goalie Kent Taylor found himself with two Brantford players alone in front of the net just as the Jr. Stings first penalty of the game came to an end. While stopping the first shooter he was unable to prevent the second player from tapping in the rebound.  It looked like Brantford might extend their lead when Lambton gave up a breakaway minutes later but Taylor came up big to keep it close.  That seemed to be the wake up call the boys needed as they suddenly came off the faceoff flying and sent wave after wave of shots at the Brantford goaltender with Clay Williams and Ben Morrison finally setting up Brad Campbell at the point. Campbell’s slap shot beat the 99r’s goalie through the five hole to end the period tied at one.

The second period started with another Lambton five-minute onslaught but between missing the net and some good goaltending the score remained tied. Then it became Brantford’s turn as the next five minutes was spent in Lambton’s end as the Jr. Sting ran into some all too familiar penalty trouble. Taylor again stood strong making a couple of great saves on some back door attempts. With five minutes remaining in the period and while playing four on four Mac Colasimone would end up with the puck all alone in front of the Brantford goalie and with some great stick work slide the puck under the goalie then tap it in as it came out the other side. Assists went to Brad Campbell and Joe DeSena. Just 37 seconds later the Jr. Sting opened it up when Williams played a two on one perfectly as he looked pass the entire way but instead fired a hard shot to beat the goalie low blocker. Two minutes later while on a five on three power play, Campbell would carry it end-to-end and go far side top shelf to give the Jr. Sting a three-goal lead going into the flood.

The third started with the Jr. Sting all over the 99r’s again but the boys became a little two confident and gave up a short-handed goal on a turnover. Mitch DeRush quickly put any comeback thoughts out of the 99r’s minds though when he finished a Williams set up just 3 second later to restore the Lambton lead.  DeSena would add one for good measure when Campbell caused a turnover in his own end while killing a penalty, his cross ice pass to Macpherson opened up some ice for DeSena and a great pass sent DeSena in all alone where he finished with a great bar down goal to finish the scoring.

The Jr. Sting head into London tomorrow night for the battle for third place.

Final: 6-2 Lambton

Saves: Kent Taylor 29, Brantford 50

Penalties: Lambton 22 min, Brantford 24 min

Notes: Williams and Campbell both with three-point games
