3 and 1 at the Detroit Warrior AAA Invitational
The Lambton Jr. Sting Minor Atom’s went to Motown and showed the competition that they're a team that's on the rise.

Game #1 Clarington Toro’s

The Jr. Sting met the Clarington Toro’s, a solid team that can move the puck and thier feet well. The Toro’s came out in the 1st and showed the Sting that they were out to dictate the play scoring 2 in the 1st and a 3rd after the puck was dropped in the 2nd, not a position the boys are use to.  The boys answered right back and at the end of the 2nd  and it  was  a 4-3 score for the Toro’s. The 3rd was all Jr. Sting , putting the biscuit in the basket 4 more times, and the first win of the tournament in the books 7-4.

Game #2 Toronto Jr. Canadians

The Lambton Jr. Sting were in tuff, with a fast paced team from the GTHL. The first period saw the Toronto Jr. Canadians with the lead 1-0. The boys battled, but the chances were hard to come by.  Lambton skated with the Toronto Jr. Canadians but the legs were getting tired and at the end of the 2nd and Toronto held the lead 3-1. A team effort in the 3rd produced more chances, but the boys were unable to get it rolling. A loss, to a solid team 4-1.

Game #3 Belle Tire

Day two was an early morning and the boys hit the ice against Detroit Belle Tire. Belle came out strong and put the puck in the net after the first puck drop. Not what the boys had in mind for the first game of the day. After that the boys woke up and fired 4 by the Belle and took the lead after the 2nd period 4-1. Belle Tire was not going away without a fight and found the net 3 times in the 3rd to close the gap, but the Jr. Sting had 3 of their own to take the game 7-4.

After a long wait and hitting the refresh button on the iPad time after time, the Jr. Sting found themselves just missing out on the 8th spot wild card trip to the finals bracket by a small margin goal differential.  Which also meant, waiting to Sunday to play again.

Game #4 Toronto Nationals

What can you say about a team that puts it all on the ice in a game that didn’t mean a whole lot in regards to the tournament, as both teams were done and going home after 3 periods. The Jr. Sting came to play and that’s what they did. The first 2 periods ended with opportunities at both ends of the ice but the score remained 0-0.  Half way through the 3rd the boys found the back of the net, capitalizing on a power play, and led 1-0. With time coming close to an end, the Nationals were defending a 5 on 3 Jr. Sting power play, and with 2 seconds left in the kill, the Jr. Sting put a deflating goal past the Nationals with 3 minutes left in the 3rd securing the win 2-0.

With 28 teams competing hard all weekend the Lambton Jr. Sting (9th) will be able to take a 3-1 record back home, and hit the ice on Monday to build on a season that is by far exceeding expectations, from a group that know they can skate with any team out there.  Great work this weekend boys!!!!! Practice hard……
