Coach
From: Sarnia
Cory
is entering his 13th year of Coaching and 8th year of coaching with the Lambton
Jr. Sting AAA program.
Included in Cory's coaching resume are 3 Alliance Championships, 1 OHF
appearance and numerous Tournament victories. Cory was awarded Lambton
Jr. Sting AAA Coach of the Year in 2006 and again in 2015. Cory was also
awarded the 2006 Timex Community Coach of the year award. Cory has
coached several players who have gone on to successful OHL and Jr. B careers.
Cory’s playing career progressed through Sarnia Minor Hockey, the
Mooretown Flags, as part of their All Ontario Champion team, three
years in the OHL with North Bay, Owen Sound and Niagara Falls, ending with five
years at the Canadian Interuniversity Sport level with the Wilfrid Laurier
Golden Hawks which included an All Ontario Championship.
Cory's coaching philosophy is focused on providing a positive, fun, safe
and structured learning environment for all the kids. From a hockey
perspective, he spends the majority of his teams time focused on skill
development and individual tactics. Cory believes at the minor hockey level, core
skating and puck handling skills are still the primary focus of a development
plan, and his practice plans reflect this. Apart from hockey
development, Cory also emphasizes fair play, respect, hard work and a “team
first” environment.
