Lambton wins exciting game 2 in playdown action
The Boys are facing the top seeded team in the first round of the Alliance Playdowns, the Elgin Middlesex Chiefs, who went undefeated in the regular season with an impressive record of 25 wins, 0 losses and 8 ties.
After a 7-0 loss to the Chiefs on Saturday January 25th, The Boys had a couple of days to clean their wounds and regroup for game 2.
Game 2 started off with the Chiefs jumping out to an early lead just 2-1/2 minutes into the 1st, But they kept pressing and Liam Kidder knotted the game at 1 with 6 minutes to go in the period. Less then a Minute and a half later the Chiefs would score a power play goal to regain the lead at 2-1, But the Boys kept grinding away and tied the game up at 2 with Landen Hookey banging in a loose puck out front of the Chiefs goal, with less than 3 minutes to go in the 1st.
The 2nd period saw the game become a tight checking goaltending duel, but Lambton got themselves into more penalty trouble and couldn't hold off the leagues top power play unit and the Chiefs regained the lead 3-2 with that being the only goal scored in the 2nd.
After the break, both teams came out flying with end to end action with save after save from netminder Elijah Grant. With 7-1/2 minutes to go in the third the Captain Austin Harper put his team on his back and tied the game up with a beautiful wrap around goal. The Boys gained momentum after Harpers goal and kept pressing on and shutting down Elgin's relentless attacks to see the game end in a 3-3 tie after regulation time.
Overtime was all Elgin in the Stings end with Grant standing on his head. Then the unexpected happened when Austin Harper intercepted a Brady Stonehouse pass which sent him on a breakaway, everyone was on their feet to witness Harper sniping the OT winner just 2-1/2 minutes into OT. The crowd was going crazy as the Lambton bench cleared and the celebration began.
Elijah Grant was outstanding turning away 27 of 30 shots.
The series is tied at 2pts each.
