Hey everyone,
Hopefully you all were able to watch the two videos created by Dawn Riley, the first one was with players from the Lambton organization and the second was from the 2020/2021 coaches.
Thank you Dawn for taking the time to create those two videos. Also, I'd like to congratulate Brad Riley on winning Coach of the year as well as the 4 Minor Midget players that were selected in OHL draft.
In the coaches video I briefly spoke to potential players on what they should be doing to stay active and game ready. Here are a few more examples plus the original examples for players that are planning to attend tryouts for the U14 team this coming season.
- rollerblading
- jogging
- bike rides
- walking
- sprints
- stationary biking
- shooting pucks
- stick handling around cones/pucks
- working on hand eye/reaction
- studying the game!!
When doing these make sure you are working on weaknesses as well. Example - if you feel/need to improve your backhand, work on backhands.
Home workouts
It is important to get stronger but not to lose explosiveness and gain too much muscle mass. Here are some body weight exercises you can do
- push-ups
- sit-ups
- squats
- lunges
- plank
- burpees
- mountain climber
If you are using weights focus on high reps with low weight and do 3/4 sets for now. Do activities/exercises that you believe will help you
compete for a spot on the team. It will be very clear once tryouts begin who put the work in and who didn't.
Lastly, hopefully everyone is staying safe and healthy during these times, like I mentioned in the video if we keep doing our part by flattening the curve we will be back in the rink in no time doing what we love to do. I know I am missing the game and cannot wait to get things going.
