Sting Suffer Offensive Power Outage at Blueline Tournament
The Lambton Jr. Sting u18 squad entered the Kitchener Blueline Tournament on the weekend with high hopes of putting up some scores in their favour.  What happened was not quite according to plan as they suffered 4 losses after only suffering an offensive power outage and only mustering 2 goals all weekend.

In Game 1 on Friday, the Sting squared off against the Southern Tier Admirals, a game that all would agree could  have been a win  for the Lambton lads.  Unfortunately it ended in a 2-0 defeat.  0-0 after one period and 1-0 after two periods, the game was close and the Sting had chances, but a steady stream of penalties stymied any momentum they were generating.  A miscue in the third lead to the Admirals 2nd goal and that was the way the game ended.  Goalie Joe Malinowski faced 26 shots in a losing cause.

Game 2 of the day was a late one at 9pm and the Sting was facing the top ranked team in Ontario from Ajax Pickering.  The Raiders were a fast skating aggressive team that never quit and kept pressuring all over the rink.  They peppered goalie John Chartrand with 33 shots who gave the Sting a chance to hang around making many key saves.  JJ Fogarty scored the lone Sting goal in the 3rd period. Will Hull earned an assist.  The game ended in a 5-1 loss for the Sting.

Saturday brought a new day and renewed hope for a turn-around of fortunes. A great team walk to brunch at the Korner Kitchen was a great way to start the day.  A few of the boys were talking to the hockey Gods and asking for some good bounces and better luck today.  The opponent was a tough one in the Guelph Jr. Gryphons, the 5th ranked team in Ontario, so no easy task.   The game was close and tight checking and scoring chances were plentiful in the early going but nobody seemed to be able to bulge the twine.  A couple posts and near misses was all the Sting had to show for their efforts.  A couple blocked shots that landed on Guelph sticks and the Sting were down 2to0 and back on their heels.  But like any good team, they did not roll over and quit.  They kept coming.  JJ Fogarty again provided the hot hand as he rifled home a powerplay marker from Jace McGrail and Anthony Tudino to make it 3to1.  A cross bar hit in the last 5 minutes was the kind of luck the Sting was having. A different fate and the final 5 minute push would have proved more hopeful.   Regardless it was another loss, 3-1 for the Lambton boys.  They were outshot 27-16 and likely more shots missed the net this game than we put on net.  Joe Malinowski was solid between the pipes and gave the Sting a chance which is all you can ask from your tender.

The final game of the tournament was another late one as they had a 9:15 pm start and were facing Alliance foes the Hamilton Huskies.  A sputtering offence continued to plague the Sting as they could only muster 12 shots on the Huskies net.  John Chartrand faced 34 shots in the Sting net and was his usual solid self making many difficult saves look easy.  The Huskies would score and empty netter in the 3rd to seal the victory 3to0.

The team is now off til next weekend when they will face Hamilton and Brantford in Alliance league action.
