Sting Lose 4-2 to London as Alliance shuts down Due to Covid
The Sting resumed league play tonight with a trip down the 402 to square off against the London Jr. Knights. After the first period it was 0-0. London struck first in the second to go up 1-0.
The Sting bounced back with a goal by Kevin Waters who tapped in a rebound off a Colton Graham rush and wrap around attempt. Jace McGrail who started the breakout to Graham gained the second assist. Game tied 1-1.
The game was tied 1-1 heading to intermission.
In the third period, London came out and scored twice, one of which was shorthanded to go up 3-1.
Anthony Tudino would get the Sting close as he picked up an unassisted marker to make it 3-2. The Sting started to pressure the Knights but a late penalty in the final 2 minutes gave the powerplay to London and they capitalized quickly to make it 4-2 and thwarted any Sting hopes of a comeback.
John Chartrand was outstanding in the Sting net and deserved better once again facing 46 shots and making some remarkable saves in the loss.
Alliance shutdown:
Just prior to the game, The Alliance announced they were shutting down effective Dec 17 to Dec 26. All games are cancelled during that time. Teams may still practice but inter league travel is not allowed due to the recent surge of Omicron virus cases in Ontario.
Hopefully, this stoppage is short lived and we can get back to playing games sooner than later.
On behalf of the u18 Sting team we would like to take this time to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Safe and Happy New Year. Be safe and enjoy the holidays spent with family and friends.
