A tie and a loss for the Minor Peewee
The Minor Peewee faced the Chatham Cyclones and the London Knights this weekend.

On Saturday the Minor Peewee faced Chatham Cyclones at Bothwell Arena.

Play begins with Chatham taking the puck into the Sting end, it's shot out by Jaxon Shelton but taken in again for the first shot on net which is promptly saved by Luc Thorne-Smith. The puck is taken out by Hunter Monkhouse and skated up for a try on the Cyclone net. More attacks on the Chatham net and the first goal of the game taken by Nolan DeGurse assisted by Dylan Riddell. Chatham try hard for an equalizer with shots on the Lambton net but with no luck. The puck is skated out by Ryan Barwitzki and picked up by Spencer Vandenboom who shoots it down to the Cyclone end resulting in an icing call. More attacks on the Sting net and great defensive play by the Lambton boys keeps it away. Monkhouse shoots the puck out again but Chatham skate it back up for another try on net. More saves by Thorne-Smith and Jaxon Shelton takes the puck out of the Lambton zone. The Cyclones grab a power play and attack the Sting net again, no goal and shot out by Matt McIntyre and Kyle Kachan. Chatham return for another try but end up with a penalty. Steel Harris and Ryleigh Vanderwal skate the puck out, the Cyclones take another penalty and DeGurse shoots and scores his second of the game assisted by Kachan and Riddell. Another great try by Monkhouse, Vanderwal, McIntyre and Josh McLean at the end of the power play but with no luck so we go into the second in the lead 2-0.

We start the second period with a 4 minute penalty against us. The Cyclones come out hard but are met by Riddell who skates the puck out, Chatham grab it back and shoot at Thorne-Smith who gloves it. Nice aggressive play by the Sting keep the puck at bay for a while but the Cyclones attack the Lambton net ruthlessly. Riddell takes the puck again and DeGurse skates it out. Several more saves by the Sting and another penalty for Chatham who lose their advantage. Barwitzki shoots the puck out and Riddell skates it into the Cyclone zone - good try by the boys but the Cyclones retaliate with yet more shots on the Lambton net. Nice pass by Shelton to Brandon Neelin who skates it down to the Chatham end. Carson Perry picks the puck up and has a great try on net. The Cyclones skate it back for yet another shot on Thorne-Smith which is kicked out and taken up by Barwitzki who has a great try on net. Chatham breakaway but are stopped by Monkhouse, and the puck is shot out by McLean and kept in by Kachan with another try on net by Perry and Cory Smith. Great defensive moves by Steel Harris keep the puck in the Cyclone end and more penalties are awarded. A great try by Monkhouse and yet another penalty for Chatham 4 on 3 now. Brilliant pressure round the Chatham net by the Sting boys and the puck kept in by Neelin and Shelton. Chatham take the puck and breakaway scoring their first of the game. Good play by Harris and DeGurse but no goal. The puck is taken out by the Cyclones and they score their second tying up the game 2-2. Brilliant checking by Harris and more penalties awarded. 

We go into the 3rd 2-2. Another breakaway by Chatham but no goal. Lots of pressure on the Sting net but skated out by Monkhouse and Neelin. More penalties, and the Cyclones rebound a goal in taking them into the lead 3-2. Puck taken in by Harris and Shelton and Smith scores the equalizer 3-3. Great passing by DeGurse and Kachan but Chatham skate down to the Sting net, double rebound saved by Thorne-Smith ending in another penalty for Lambton. Vanderwal shoots the puck out but it's skated back for another shot on the Sting net. Taken out by Vandenboom but the Cyclones gain control and come in for another power play shot. Taken out by Smith, but Chatham are hungry for the win and attack the Lambton net again. A beautiful save by Thorne-Smith and the puck is taken back to the Cyclone end by Smith. Skated in by DeGurse with a good try. A final push by Chatham on the Sting net but with no luck and after 38 shots on Thorne-Smith the game ends in a 3-3 tie. 

 

On Sunday the Minor Peewee traveled to London to face the London Knights.

The Knights go straight on the attack and the Sting take a penalty giving London the advantage. The Knights take control of their power play and score the first goal. Play continues and good work from Josh McLean keeps the puck away from the Lambton net with Jaxon Shelton skating it out. London shoot again but goalie Liam McCarthy makes the save. The Knights grab another power play but the puck is intercepted by Hunter Monkhouse. London shoot the puck in the net and widen the lead 2-0. A couple of saves from McCarthy and a good try on the Knights net by Carson Perry. Ryleigh Vanderwal skates the puck back to the London end and it’s kept in by Matt McIntyre. A great try on net from Monkhouse. Good checking from Cory Smith and great work from Nolan DeGurse, Kyle Kachan and Shelton sees the puck back in the Knights end. More penalties and the Sting take a 5 on 3 advantage. Skated in by Dylan Riddell and a good shot on net from Ryan Barwitzki but no score. Monkhouse and Barwitzki skate the puck down again and Brandan Neelin keeps it in. The Knights take control and skate up for their 3rd of the game. Steel Harris and McLean take the puck out again, and it’s skated down by Monkhouse who has another try on net. Lots of pressure around the London net but the Knights take the puck back. Great work by DeGurse keeps the puck from the Sting net. Nice checking from Harris and Kachan takes the puck. McClean skates down for another try on net. More saves from Lambton but the Knights get another shot in taking the lead to 4-0.

The second period starts with the Sting taking control, McIntyre skates the puck in and we see solid work from Kachan. Nice save from McCarthy and Monkhouse takes the puck away. Good defensive work from Harris and Spencer Vandenboom, ending in a great shot on net from Riddell. The Knights take another power play and score their 5th. More attacks around the Lambton net and the Sting take a power play. Great work from Shelton keeps the puck in, and good passing from Barwitzki and DeGurse. Perry skates the puck back up and McClean shoots one in resulting in the first goal of the game for the Sting. The Knights retaliate and score their 6th. Monkhouse and Harris take the puck to the London end and Harris has a good shot on net. Good defensive work from Neelin and Smith take the puck away. McLean stops the puck and skates it up, picked up by Perry who has another good try on net. London come back with another goal taking the score to 7-1. 

The third starts with Riddell taking another shot on net but no luck. The Knights take another power play, great team work from Monkhouse, McLean and Vanderwal keeps the puck away but London shoot another in. The Knights attack the Lambton net again but are turned away by McCarthy. Vandenboom skates the puck out and Neelin has a try on net. Another power play for London and another goal. McLean takes the puck out but it’s skated up again by the Knights with no luck at the net. Good work from Shelton keeps the puck away and Vandenboom picks it up and skates it down. Great checking from Barwitzki gets the puck to Vandenboom and a great try from Shelton. Riddell keeps the puck out and Perry has a good try but the Knights get their last goal with 36 seconds left giving them the win 10-1.
