A mixed bag of a Win, a Loss and a Tie for Major Peewees
The Major Peewees ventured down to Windsor to take on a division rival, to start off a 3 games in 3 day road trip – 2 regular season and 1 exhibition game.

In the first period both teams seem to be using the same tactic of dump and chase, however, neither team seemed to be able to muster up significant scoring chances. The defense played solid and forwards did a good job back checking.  About midway through the period Windsor were able to get a partial breakaway, and got away a nice shot headed for the top shelf, but goaltender Josh Bayne, flashed the glove to deny the goal.

In the second period while on the power play the Spitfires set up shop in our zone and found the back of the net with a shot from the point.  The Sting had their chance on the PP, but unfortunately nothing came from it.  Windsor were able to put another tally on the scoreboard to move ahead 2-0, looking like this was going to carry into the third however, while on another power play Lucas Knowles took a beautiful high shot from a tough angle,  which found the net just as the buzzer went.

The final period saw the Sting put more pressure on the Spitfires, causing them to take some penalties.  The team had both a 5 on 3 for a time and another opportunity with a 4 minute advantage, but neither time could they make Windsor pay.  The final score remained 2-1 for the Spitfires.  A disappointing result but hopefully a wakeup call for their game tomorrow against EMC.

The second game of the weekend had the team heading to Komoka to take on the 1st place Elgin Middlesex Chiefs with the lyrics of “If you had 1 chance, 1 opportunity to beat #1 would you take it?” playing in the heads of the Sting players.

Both teams came out skating well and limiting the opposition’s chances.  The opening 10 minute frame had the goalers and defense holding form as the period ended 0 – 0.

The second started off with more of the same close checking New Jersey Devil style of hockey by both sides.  It was Lambton who would break the goose eggs as call-up Joel Pavey fed a nice cross ice pass to Nic Direzze who had sped past his man in the slot and deflected the pass home.  Another close call by Joey Ferrera’s shot rebound to a wide open Lucas Knowles BUT the bouncing puck eluded his stick … unlucky!  On the power play the Lambton Jr Sting took a 2 – 0 lead as Cameron Adam off a feed from Alec Trusler, rang one off the post that Curtis Marks was able the smack home.  Building off of this momentum, the Sting scored again a mere 15 seconds later as Lucas Knowles did the dirty work down low and fed Dante Fuoco out front who made no mistake in finding the back of the net.  3 – 0 Sting.   The Chiefs were able to solve Jakob Knowles while on a power play that never should have been.  The Sting were called for delay of game when a puck was shot into the players bench … HUH?!?!?  Stranger still, the goal was immediately waived off due to a high stick by the referee 10 feet away only to be over-ruled by the referee who was outside the blue line … HUH?!?!?  To their credit, the boys did not let this phase them, dug in their heels and showed some good mental toughness and discipline.

The power play marker by Joey Ferrera 3 minutes into the 3rd helped stem the growing Elgin confidence the striped duo had given them.  On an EMC power play, Jakob Knowles proved to be the best penalty killer as he made several key saves keeping the Chiefs at bay.  The game ended 4 – 1 for the Sting.  Way to go fellas you showed a great deal of intensity and mental fortitude in this victory!

The third game of the weekend had the boys travel to Hazel Park Michigan to take on the Redford Kings.  After a slow start to the first for the Sting, Lambton was able to overcome the 3 goal deficit by scoring 4 straight and carried a 1 goal lead into the 3rd.  The kings were able to notch the equalizer and the game ended in a 4 – 4 draw.  The second tie these two teams had played each other to in the past month.
