'05 Off Ice Summer Training and Info
I hope everyone is enjoying time away from the rink and the nice weather.  I have purposely kept the emails and communication to a minimum.  I truly believe everyone and more importantly players need time away from the rink.  Wayne Gretzky is probably the biggest proponent of telling kids to stay off the ice in the summer and play other sports.  The cross-functional skills an athlete picks up playing other sports outweighs the benefits of being on the ice 12 months a year and helps with burnout.   That being said the players are at an age whereby they need to continue to work off-ice to be prepared to for the upcoming year and improve their overall skills.  Please see below for important summer information about the team.

Mandatory Off Ice Training

Now that school is out all players will be participating in two mandatory off-ice trainings - 5000 Puck Challenge and 30/30 Challenge.  The training can be done around the players schedule and there is NO COST to them.  Both programs are built off of Hockey Canada's Long Term Player Development (LTPD) model and we will stealing from the OMHA.   Please ensure, players watch the attached video(s) to make sure they are shooting puck correctly and doing off-ice training properly.

The 5000 Puck Challenge (which includes goalies) will be tracked for 10 weeks (Goalies will need to face 5000 shots). This means all kids will need to have completed the 5000 pucks by the 1st day of school.  The 30/30 challenge is an 8 week program.  I will give some flexibility on this one and it will need to be completed by the 1st day of School as well.  There will be no online tracking, but each player will need to fill out the sheets emailed to parents and  have a parent sign off on the paperwork and bring to the 1st practice after the beginning of school.  My teams have done something similar over the last 13 years and I have only had 2 players not complete their targets as requested.  Needless to say, both players, were not playing AAA hockey the following year.

August Ice Times

As most of you have noticed we are starting to get our August ice times.  (Please continue to monitor website).  .  I am pretty flexible around missing times in August.  If your child has another sport or you are on vacation that is ok.  Once September hits that is a different story.

Tournaments

subject to change

September 15 – 17 – Rochester Monarch Battle Royale, Rochester, NY

Parent/Team Meeting

David and I will get together to figure out the best date/time for a Pre-Season Meeting.  We will probably do something in late August after or before a practice.

Thanks and see you all soon!
