Sting Take Down Chiefs in Shootout
The Lambton Sting u18 Squad with a depleted lineup skated into enemy territory in Komoka Tuesday night to take on their arch rival Elgin- Middlesex Chiefs, a team that has many former Lambton Sting players. The game was a back and forth affair with both teams trading two goals apiece in the first period but Lambton would prevail in a shootout to claim the two points.
Darren LaPointe scored the first goal from JJ Fogarty and Adam Osler to put the Sting up 1-0. AP call up Jaden Arnold deflected a point shot from Owen Kalp and it bounced in off a Chief defender to go up 2-0. The Chiefs battled back and tied the game at 2 on goals by former Sting players Faulkner and Gonzalez.
In the second period Jace McGrail broke in on a breakaway splitting the D and rifled a laser over the outstretched glove of the goalie. Assists went to Colton Graham and Darren LaPointe. Sting up 3-2. Former Sting Owen Hey would bang home a loose puck on the doorstep to tie the game at 3. There was no scoring in the third and the game headed to overtime for 5 minutes of 3on3 action.
Nothing was decided in overtime as both teams traded chances. In the shootout, Luke DesRoches and JJ Fogarty scored for Lambton and Sting netminder Joe Malinowski slammed the door denying both Elgin shooters. The Sting won 4-3 and claimed the coveted 2points.
Netminder Malinowski faced 32 shots in the Lambton net.
The Sting now have a much needed break in the schedule to rest up and heal up as they were missing 5 regulars. AP callups Jaden Arnold and Matthew Langhorn played a regular shift and were great contributors to the victory.
