Lambton Gets First League Win
Submitted By Minor PeeWee on Thursday, October 23, 2008
Lambton once again for the third straight league game were up against the Sun County Panthers and looking to turn things around in league play as they were sporting a 0-4 league record. First period action had Lambton controlling the play once again and was rewarded with their strong play holding a 1-0 lead after the first on a goal from Brett Corrigan, assisted by Adam Craievich and Jake Mott. Early in the second period the Panthers would tie the game. Lambton would respond with two more goals from Brett Corrigan and Aiden Chapdelaine with Adam Craievich, Kyle Adams and Tim Kaldeway getting the helpers for a 3-1 lead.

The Lambton squad then let off the gas pedal as they watched the Panthers pounce on the puck again and again and rattle off 3 more goals in a four minute span to take the lead 4-3 after two periods. Early in the third Lambton was given a power-play opportunity to try and tie things up but all went wrong and the Panthers would score a shorthanded goal for a 5-3 lead. While still on the power-play Lambton would work the puck around well as Corrigan would get the hat-trick from Craievich on some nice down low give and go passing and narrow the game to 5-4. For half of the third  period Lambton seem to be looking for a way to give the game to the Panthers as they continued to give Sun County numerous scoring opportunities but Riley Collins was doing all he could to keep the Sting in the game.

Unfortunately Lambton couldn’t hold off the Panthers as they would go ahead 6-4, but hold on Lambton would still not go away as they would quickly respond with Corrigan netting his forth goal of the game from Kaldeway to once again narrow the score to within one. With the last minute ticking down Lambton couldn’t get out of their end to get the extra attacker and Sun County would put the finishing touches on the Sting with another goal for the 7-5 win and the Sting still needing to learn that hockey at this age and level needs to be played for a full three periods as they again had a convincing lead and let it slip away.

Game two on the weekend brought a fresh face to the SSEC as the Hamilton Reps and Lambton Sting would lock horns for the first time this season. Pre-game antics had the Sting try to get rid of some demons they seem to be having lately so they all switched one sock with another player on the team…..not sure if Coach Gino was aware but I’m sure he does now after reading this. Lambton would score the only goal of the first period off the stick of Tim Kaldeway from Adriano Fuoco and Zach Van Eyk.

Hamilton would tie the game early in the second until Adam Craievich would put the Sting ahead 2-1 late in the second unassisted. Once again the Reps would tie the game early in the third but that wouldn’t last long as Lambton would respond on the next shift when Aiden Chapdelaine would beat the Reps goalie on a pass from Kyle Adams and Tim Kaldeway. A few minutes later the Sting would add to the lead 4-2 when Adam Craievich would get his second goal of the game from Brett Corrigan and Jake Mott.

Hamilton rallied and pulled the game within one late in the third but that’s all they could muster as Lambton would take their first win in league action….. 4-3 final. Cole Lauzon picked up the win in net for Lambton.
