Lambton Jr. Sting Fall Short in BioSteel Vaughan Kings Classic

Minor Peewee squad set the tone for the weekend with an impressive 7-1 victory
over the Nepean Raiders at the Westwood Arena on Friday afternoon. Balanced scoring and strong goaltending
helped the Sting cap off the day with a 5-3 win over the Rochester Red Wings
Friday evening at the Scotiabank Pond.
Disciplined defensive coverage, timely scoring and great Penalty Killing allowed the coaches to roll all three lines as momentum continued to build as the Lambton Jr. Sting rolled over #10 Ranked Ottawa Sting 5-1 in Saturday morning’s game at Chesswood Arena.
Saturday’s evening tilt saw the Sting square off against the host Vaughn Kings earning a 4-4 tie, securing 1st place for the Sting in Round Robin play. Sunday morning saw a shorthanded Sting skate to a 3-1 victory over the Markham Majors losing players to illness and vacation. The win securing them a spot in the Finals to face the Ottawa Sting.
In the Gold Medal game fans were treated to an exciting scoreless first period as the shorthanded Sting traded scoring opportunities back stopped by great goaltending at each end. Lambton appeared to reach the back of the net first, however it was ruled a tipped high stick resulting in no goal. Momentum began to swing in Ottawa’s favour as they scored 3 unanswered goals by the middle of the 3rd period. Lambton battled hard narrowing the score to 3-1 however Ottawa added another to take a commanding 4-1 lead which proved to be the final score.
Lambton head coach Andy Cadieux said “The boys played their hearts out this weekend going 4-1-1. We took it to Ottawa in Round Robin so we knew they would be gunning for us. It’s extremely tough to beat a team twice in a tournament. Kudos to Ottawa, they are a very good team. I am extremely proud of our boys!
We’ll wear our Silver Medals proudly”.
