96's make the Sweet 16 of Toronto Holiday Classic!!
It looked to be the toughest tournament year to date and with two key injuries going into the tournament and a tough schedule in the round robin many may have counted us out as possible contenders.
They were wrong because on day one with two solid wins we were in a good position to win our division all that stood in our way was the # 4 ranked Don Mills Flyers but on that day our team came out Flying and put an amazing effort together for three periods and won 5-2 over a shocked Don Mills group. The late morning game was against a very solid Guelph Storm team that it was do or die for them and a Win or tie situation to take the division title for us in order to get through to the final 16. We took an early lead and lost it but we dug deep and pulled off the 4-4 tie in the last few minutes of the game and we won our Division title for the first time this year. Our next game was a very strong # 10 ranked York Simcoe Express. Our boys looked very tired and many were fighting through a few injuries but showed true grit, heart and Character and found a way to play through it. It was an amazing back and forth game that saw the lead change a few time's but our boys just won't give up even when they didn't have anything left in their tanks they just kept coming it was very impressive to be a part of this group of young men. We ended up loosing in double over time 4-3 and what was an oustanding growing experience for this group. As their coaches both Shawn and I would like to say congratulations and say how proud we are to be your coaches this weekend was amazing.
I would also like to that Paul Wammas for all his hard work around the rink and in trying to keep our boys as healthy as possible this weekend. We would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year!!
