Sting Beat Huron Perth to Become Alliance Consolation Champions
Submitted By kadam on Wednesday, March 10, 2010
This past Saturday the minor atom AAA Lambton Jr Sting  hosted the Huron-Perth Lakers for game 3 of of the 6 point series.  The Sting were up 4 points leading up to the game and were anxious to win at home and end the series.

The boys came up flying in the 1st period, setting a  fast paced tempo which the Lakers could not seem to keep up with.  The Sting took the early lead with Dante Fuoco finishing off some good hustle from Nolan Farr and Cameron Adam.  The Sting continued with this constant pressure scoring 2 more in the period. Nolan Farr scored as he picked the puck up at centre ice and skated by everyone finishing with a nice shot and then it was C. Adam who sniped one from the slot, from a passing play from D. Fuoco and N. Farr.

It only took 45 seconds into the 2nd period for Carson Payne to find the twine, building a commanding 4-0 lead, and it seemed as if the team was well on its way to blow out victory.  However, Huron-Perth began to find their legs and the Sting stopped moving theirs, shifting  the momentum of the game in the Lakers favor.  The Lakers managed to score 4 unanswered goals over the remaining time in the 2nd and in the early part of the 3rd period, tying the game, keeping there series hopes alive even with a tie.

The game was 4-4 at the end of regulation, with the prospect of another game the following day if the Lakers won in OT or if it remained tied after the 5 minutes of OT.  This was a notion that neither the players nor the parents wanted to entertain.

The overtime period started with the Sting gaining the offensive zone right away, the Sting battled well to keep it in the Lakers zone.  It was Alec Trusler who took a shot towards the net which found an open D. Fuoco who banged it home for the dramatic win.

Fantastic job boys and congratulations on winning the Consolation Championship!  Its nice to cap off the season sweeping the series.
