10,000 Puck Challenge, News, Major Atom, 2015-2016 (Lambton Jr. Sting AAA Hockey )

Each player on the Lambton Jr. Sting Major AAA team is required to shoot at minimum 10,000 pucks over the course of the summer.  This averages out to just over 100 a day, as the challenge runs until August 31^st.  This means that if you miss a day or two you will have to shot 200  or 300 on another day.  This is an easy off ice exercise for all the players to participate in.  Other teams have formalized off ice programs, however; I believe the summer is a good time for players and families to get away from the rink and re-energize for the upcoming year.  With that said the summer is the time of year to work on your skill development i.e. shooting pucks, stickhandling in the garage and/or participating in skills camp.

The 10,000 puck challenge is free of charge and the improvement in the players shot is astonishing.  Even Sydney Crosby bangs out pucks during the summer months.  This challenge is mandatory for every positional player, I do not want to see a few players at 3000 shots with only 4 days to go until the August 31^st deadline.  This is optional for goalies, but shooting pucks does not hurt in the development of a goalies skill.  Players and Parents alike put in a large commitment to the team in terms of time and money and this is a commitment to the team that costs nothing and belongs to the player.
